Treatment Plan

Aiden will require a prostaglandin infusion following delivery for pulmonary blood flow. Depending on the results of Aiden’s scans posts birth:

Aiden will require a three staged single ventricle surgical palliation (this means Aiden can’t be fixed, they can only make it as best as possible until more progress is made in this field). The first stage will likely be within the first week of life, a Blalock – Taussig shunt for adequate pulmonary blood flow. The second pallative surgery would be a Glenn procedure around 4-6 months of life, which involves anastomosis of the superior vena cava to the pumonary artery. The final stage of the palliative repair is the Fontan procedure (2 yrs old), which involves anastomosis of the inferior vena cava to the pulmonary artery, with the final result of single ventricle systemic circulation and passive pulmonary circulation.
